We are in the process of draining and re filling our 20000 gal..I could not control the green alga and I thinking of trying the BBB method . I tried to post on the other thread for new people and it said it was closed...I would like to know how to start I normally add soda ash mixed with water when the pool is filled is that the same as borax???... And can I still just add Soda Ash instead?? Also is there anything I add while filling? Can I add the bleach/liquid chlorine as it is filling?

Hi Kathyet and welcome to the Pool Forum. First of all, DON'T TOTALLY DRAIN YOUR POOL!!! If your water table is high, you can float your pool right out of the ground. If it is a liner pool, draining can destroy your liner. You can probably safely drain 2/3.
Post a current set of water testing results taken with a drops-based kit and we can help you clear it up. Get several bottles of plain unscented bleach. (I use Walmart's generic ultra bleach.) If you don't have a good test kit, you should get one. We recommend the Taylor K-2006 or 2006C. If you buy it through the Amazon link in my signature below, the Pool Forum makes a little money on the sale which helps keep this forum online. Only buy if the seller is Amato Industries. Some other sellers are substituting the K-2005 which you do NOT want.
Repost with some numbers and we'll go from there. Also tell us what type of pool it is and what type of filter you have and the size of the pump.
