Is it beneficial to purchase a cover for your pump (above ground pump in my case)?
I can see where there might be some benefit, but I can also see where they might obstruct air flow.
Thoughts?
Thank you.

If the cover is open at both ends it should be fine. I would definitely cover if mine were not in a poolhouse. Keeps the rain off and especially the water mist that gets sucked through the motor by the cooling fan. Also remember the sun won't be hitting it directly and heating it up.

Uh-oh...this is the first season my pump is at all covered. It's been out there in the open for 8 years. Hope I don't have a problem.....:)
The gold Hayward motor cover turned silver but other than that it's fine. It's now under the new deck so it's not exposed to sun or direct rain, but the deck, of course, has gaps between decking.

Thank you.
My first pool pump lasted eight years and wasn't covered.
I recently purchased a new pump and was wondering if I had covered my pump would it have lasted longer.

The problems will be apparent if you ever have to take it apart. Rust. Once tried to pull the bearings on a pump that was probably 5 years old and was impossible. Mine is 1997 vintage, in a poolhouse, and clean as the day it was installed.
