I just bought my first pool tonight. I got an Intex 24' x 12' x 52" Ultra Metal-Frame. We already want to upgrade the filter and pump. I have heard that both are inadequate. So, we are looking at getting the Intex 4000 pump and the Krystal Clear Salt Water System. My question is am I forgetting anything or am I getting it wrong? I want to order everything now so it will arrive together. My kids will be very impatient once it gets delivered. I am getting overwhelmed with this pool and it isn't even here yet. I want to make this as easy as possible.

Thank you for any advice.

I'm using this set up on my 18' intex. I love it. It keeps the water clear and I haven't had to add any chemicals since the initial set up. I recently aquired a sand filter, but I'm still using the intex pump. You will have to clean the filter every 2 or 3 days, but it does move a lot of water. I've been happy with my purchase.

A sand filter is coming with my pool also. I am a little confused on the working parts of the pool. The sand filter and the 4000 Intex pump are doing the same job. Is that correct? I will only need one or the other?

Also what is the best thing for testing the water? Should that be done everyday?

I'm not really up on the Intex products so I'll let somebody else talk to you about that. But, a sand filter and a pump are not the same thing. The filter removes debris from the water and the pump pumps water through the filter. You need both a pump and some type of filter media -- sand, DE, or a cartridge.

Also what is the best thing for testing the water? Should that be done everyday?

We recommend the Taylor K-2006 or 2006C which is the same kit only with larger quantities of some of the most used reagents. If you buy from Amazon through the link in my signature below, the Pool Forum makes a little money on the sale. Only buy if the seller is Amato Industries, however. Some other sellers are substituting the K-2005 which you do NOT want.

Thanks Watermom. This is the pump I am looking at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018CSG14/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A2JKSOUYOKW13

I believe that this is a combined pump and filter. Would that be the only filter I need??

That's the filter/pump that I have. You can use that as the filter and pump. It takes a type "B" filter. Like I said, you will have to clean that paper filter pretty regularly, but it will do the job just fine. It just requires a bit more work than the sand filter. I removed the filter cartridge and hooked into a sand filter and just use it as a pump. Some sand filters come with a pump built onto the unit, but I'm not sure what you have.

Thanks, Mwil3. Like I said in my post above, I am not too up on the Intex products. Thanks for chiming in here to help this poster.

The kits for testing water by Amato Industries isn't on amazon. Is their another seller that would be ok to buy from?

You can always buy it directly from Taylortechnologies.com, but at MSRP.

Not sure how you attach the sand filter to the Intex pump. Their web site isn't showing the sand filter.

Here's the big question: Do you have a level surface? If you don't you'll spend more time and effort on that than you will on the setting the pool up. It's the one thing Intex doesn't tell you. But don't blame them: Nobody else does.

I was probably the first person on PoolForum with an Intex Donut, 15x3, and we used it from 2000 to 2002. It was GREAT! and I learned so much that when I put in a nearly 20,000 gallon FantaSea, I knew pretty much exactly what to do.

Good luck!

Carl

sherron,
Give it a day or two. There have been quite a few times this season where the Amazon link didn't show Amato Industries as the seller for a day or two. I assume it was when they sold out but each time, within a day or so, they were once again listed as the seller. Hopefully that is what has happened this time as well and they will restock quickly.

Sherron,
I just checked and the Amazon links below now list Amato Industries as the seller again for the 2006 and the 2006C. I think they sell and out then get more. This is the 3rd or 4th time I have seen this happen but fortunately, it is usually pretty quick for them to be back again with more kits.
