Hey all,
Me and my mom just got done lowering the pool to below the actual skimmer. I'll try to sum it up for you in the shortest way possible.
Our pool is 30+ years old, and the installation was done by a local pool company. All of the parts that are on the pool itself are made by a brand called Jacuzzi. I think they're defunct now, so getting replica parts will be nearly impossible. Well, when we purchased this house 14 years ago, the pool was all black and stinky. My dad drained it to the bottom and cleaned all the gravel with shovels. We filled it back up with water and started it up. The thing ran beautifully. It stayed like this until about 3 years ago, when we could see air bubbles out the return jets. I checked all the lines at the pump, so I proceeded to dig up around the skimmer. I found no visible cracks anywhere, but could see water dripping where the skimmer connected to the 90° elbow which then ran to the pump. I put a bunch of sealer there, but that didn't do a thing.
Me and my mom dug it up again today. This time however, we planned to repair it the right way. My dad assumed that the elbow going into the skimmer was a standard 1-1/2" thread, with the barb going into the pipe. I assumed the same, so I disconected the hose, and put the pipe wrench on it. It broke loose, and fell out of the hole! Thats where the problem was! (I hope) I guess the PVC or ABS glue or whatever had loosened. I gotta ask you guys what type of fitting and glue I should use. I'm no plumbing expert, so maybe you guys can help. I'll post a pic of what the elbow looks like.

Just for the record, the exact skimmer model is a Jacuzzi Model W, which is obsolete long ago I guess. It has two lines connected at the bottom. The rear one is straight down, and goes to the main drain. The other one is what I just described. I guess you could call it a 1.5" slip x barb/insert 90° elbow. If anybody has any information, it would be greatly appreciated. I gotta get this done tomorrow.
