My current pool pump has the pvc threaded into the pump and then glued to all the joints so I can not just unscrew the pipe from the pump. Is there a solution to this when I install the new pump? Thanks and sorry about the stupid question! If I have to, I would like to be able to remove the pump motor and basket with little trouble (i.e. cutting and regluing pvc.

Sure! It's really easy. They are called "Quick Connects" and they come as glue-ins, or threaded-male, threaded-female. Every pool store sells them and so do many plumbing supply houses. Even Home Depot and Lowes may have them. I use 'em all over my installation.

Additionally, many ball valves are combination valves/Quick Connects. I use them too. Takes me about 5 minutes to disconnect my plumbing when I close.
I have a ball valve quick connect below my skimmer, and my low drain. I have another between the low drain and the pump, and another on the return that goes to the solar panels. The main return, the two ends of the pump/filter, the filter end of the return and my backwash all use quick connects.

Cutting and gluing should not be part of your seasonal opening and closing.

You can also use a straight section of the right diameter auto radiator hose as a coupling. Any good auto store should stock straight sections in various diameters so take a piece of the 1.5" PVC with you and find something to fit. Cut the pipe, leave a 4-5" gap between the ends so you can slip the hose on, then tighten it with hose clamps. If you get about a 1" bite on the PVC it will hold nicely. This also allows flexing and helps in reducing noise. Get the cheapest hose you can. Some are designed for really rugged applications and you don't need that and the much higher cost. I've had 3 joints in place for probably 8 years and the hoses are holding up fine.

Some even come with an 8-track! :)
