View Full Version : Leaf Canister leaks a problem?

I have a Hayward Large Capacity Leaf canister that I use inline with a barracuda g4 pool cleaner. When the canister finds it's way to the surface it tends to suck in a little air. Most of the time it's really just a little air, but sometimes it actually sucks in enough to cause the pump to lose prime.

So, is this a problem I need to fix? I'm thinking so, but correct me if I'm wrong please. So far I've cleaned it out several times, replaced the rubber seal thingamajig, coated the seal and two points where hose connect with pfte lube, and still not fixed the problem.

I can't tell precisely where the air is coming in, but I strongly suspect it is coming from the points where the hose connect rather than the place where the canister comes apart for emptying.

So, do I replace the canister, replace some sections of hose (which seem pretty expensive for a 10' section of hose...) or just ignore it?

Here's a pic of the canister I'm using:

I've even debated about attaching some weights to the canister to prevent it from floating to the surface...

I strapped a couple rocks to the canister with some zip ties. Seems to have done the trick.
