Waterproffing pvc pipe thru cinder block pool

Hi, I am a DIY I have an old cinder block pool and have to re plumb with pvc, anyone know how to run pvc pipe thru the cinder block and make it water tight, I have been told to use Hydrolic cement on the back then to use plaster in the front but is this correct? do you need to use epoxy as well? any help would be appreciated, thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum. Can't comment on how this is correctly done but I think I might squish a load of silicone seal in the hole and I guess you could use plaster on the inside pool wall to dress it up. I think I would also rough up the pipe with sandpaper where the silicone would contact it just for a little extra bite. Remember, I have no idea how to 'correctly' do this. Someone who knows better should come along soon.

What sort of faceplate/ adapter will you be using on the interior of the pool?

Depending on your answer, hydrolic cement should be all you need. If it's possible, shove the pipe through the wall from inside the pool, after first packing in the cement, then use more hydrolic cement on the outside.

If you could provide a few more details as to what you're using, we can provide more detailed instruction on 'the best' way to accomplish your goals:)

I have a similar issue. I used a 3 inch core drill and drilled new holes through 8 inch block wall. Through this hole I put 2 inch pvc pipe with a coupling that has a female threaded end which projects about 1/4 inch into pool. There is a gap less than 1/4 inch around the PVC which I need to fill to make pool watertight. I also want to fill the entire cavity all the way to the back if possible. I bought some SIkabond construction adhesive to fill the back part of the cavity all the way to about 1 inch from the front. I then want to use Sikaflex 1A to complete filling in the space almost to the finished pool diamond brite. Last, I plan to finish the last 1/4 inch of space with diamondbrite which will finish flush with existing pool wall. I did not want to use the Sikaflex for the entire depth because it says that I should not use for depths greater than 1 inch.
I plan to screw in the jets to this female threaded end. Will this method work or can someone suggest a better method? I did not want to use hydrolic cement as I felt it would be hard to push it deep into the gap all the way to the back.

Cary, welcome to the forum!

If the 'Sika- stuff' is waterproof, durable, not too expanding (which might crack the PVC), and good for your expected temps - I'd say 'go for it!':)

What I've done in the past for hydrolic cement is to coat the interior of the hole (but not the last ~2 -3") with silicon, to waterproof it, and then used a 'pastry bag' to apply the hydrolic cement.

Please be sure to secure the pipe before applying the filler! I'll leave the pipe long in the back and fully secure it, then brace what's exposed in the pool. You want this to be flush to the pool surface, so make sure it is before applying the product and will remain so until the product fully cures. To keep the pipe debris free, use a threaded plug poolside (to protect the threads) and dry cap the other end.

Hey, Thanks for the response. I will try to take some pics and post this weekend. I might try that bag trick with the hydrolic cement.....I thought about doing that but thought it might be easier to use the poly caulk. I'll keep you posted.

Sika makes expandable foam. Its just like The Great Stuff foam. Use it for the hollow inside of the block as a filler then pack around the pipe with Hydraulic Cement. Quickcrete has one from Lowes.
