About 3 months ago, I replaced the ORP sensor on my PoolPilot. About 2 months ago, I put Borax into my pool as a buffer. Right after doing that, my ORP sensor says "right on" number-wise, but a chlorine test shows no CL in the pool. I bumped up the ORP target on the system, and it makes more CL now (still pretty low), but over the last 2 months, I have been getting algae "spots" on the pool in different areas. These are not going away, but multiplying.

My main question is - does adding Borax throw off the ORP sensor? I know that it is an algaecide itself, but not sure why the AutoPilot is having issues after the add. Am I OK to just bump up the ORP target on the system?

Thanks for the help!

ORP controllers are tricky at best and, IMHO, really do not belong on a residential pool since proper setup, calibration, and maintenance of them requires specialized training.
Just my 2 cents.

Well, the AutoPilot / PoolPilot has been on the pool for 3 years, and runs well, but the Borax is new... I was hoping for an answer on whether the Borax had an impact on its readings?

Thanks!

I would be more suspect of the electrodes. They do need to be replaced on a regular basis.
