All,

I stumbled across the poolforum a couple of weeks ago, as I was finishing up the assembly of my 18x34 above-ground pool. I have has an in ground before, so chemicals and maintenance are nothing new. The three B's, however, were a new concept, as was the TA reduction process. I gotta tell ya, two weeks, and the pool looks great.
ph 7.6
FC 3.5
CC 0
TA 140
CH 250
CYA 40

Previously, when I started the process two weeks ago after finally getting the pool full, the numbers were:
ph 7.8
FC 0-ish
cc 0-ish
TA 290-ish
CH 300-ish (not sure how this came down)
CYA 0-ish

The water is crystal clear, feels great, the kids swim with eyes wide open, and we don't feel "gritty" when we get out. Thanks for being a resource, for gathering all the info, and for being free with the advice. I have a couple bottles of bleach, a couple boxes of borax, and a bottle of muriatic acid. I figure these supplies will last a while, and are a lot less expensive and dangerous than the chemicals I had on hand for the in-ground years ago.

Hi, and thanks for the kind words!!Glad you found some useful information around here, and hope that you'll pop in when you can and help people understand that this isn't a "weird" way to take care of your pool!!

I will stay in touch, pass on the word to others, and keep my pool nice. Checking again this morning, and all is looking good. I need to splash some chlorine in it, but it is a new pool, so it is going to take a bit to finish stabilizing. I am considering a SWG system, but the one's I can afford are the less expensive Intex versions, and that won't quite generate enough for 17K gallons (according to research, they top out at 15K.) Too bad there hasn't been an auto chlorination system invented for plugging a bottle of bleach into it, then letting it go. LOL

To those who are just joining/finding the site, trust the words here. I wondered, half-questioned, but followed the advice anyway. The water feels better, is clearer, and I feel better not having the chemicals in the water or around the house. I even gave away the leftover 3" chlorine tabs from last year, when we had a MUCH smaller pool. This works, the chemistry is dead on, and it is a LOT more fun to maintain the pool now.

Really glad to have you here and thanks for the testimonial. It probably does sound crazy to people who stumble across our forum but as you found, it works!

Actually, there is a chlorine feed system around, although I know very little about it and how well it works. You can try searching for the "Liquidator" if you're actually interested in it :)

It's The Liquidator (http://www.ezpool.com/). It is sold here (https://poolandspawarehouse.com/proddetail.asp?prod=HASC201) and here (http://www.poolservicestech.com/hasapool-the-liquidator-updated.aspx) where the latter source has the pretty-much-necessary upgrade to the tubing. There are many threads at Trouble Free Pool (TFP) on The Liquidator including this one (http://www.troublefreepool.com/i-like-my-liquidator-it-makes-bbb-super-easy-t1476.html), this one (http://www.troublefreepool.com/liquidator-installation-thoughts-and-comments-t5602.html) and this one (http://www.troublefreepool.com/preventing-liquidator-s-white-deposit-from-the-horse-s-mouth-t7391.html) and also this thread (http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?t=7284) here at The PoolForum.
