Does anyone know if Costco still carries the big drums of granular calcium hypochlorite WITHOUT added junk like copper algecides or the like. Anone know of a relatively cheap place to get granular this year? My calcium levels are always a little low after opening so this is what I usually use early on.

I know I've been checking locally, and haven't seen any. It looks like, now that Arch (formerly Olin, ie HTH) is in the hands of an ex-Biolab-er, cal hypo is going down the drain.

It *can* be ordered, fairly economically, from Leslies. Look for their "Power Powder" line. Watch out for the other granular products; they are also selling the same blended goop as everyone else.

There are probably other online sources as well, but watch out for shipping costs. Cal hypo can be quite expensive to ship, because of hazardous materials regulations. Leslie's seems to have some kind of deal with UPS that keeps the cost down -- I know the surcharges with FedEx Ground, which I use, are horrendous.

I found some plain old calcium hypochlorite at NAMCO pool and patio for $49.99 for a 25 pound bucket. It's only 49% active whereas last year the stuff was closer to 69%. My regular local pool store does not even carry granular in anything more than a 2 pound bag anymore, luckily they still have 5 gallon carboys of 12% bleach in stock regularly.
