I have new computer & remember an older basic bleach calculator. Does anyone have a link to it as the new one is not user friendly or I am just cannot figure it out. With the old one, you just inserted your gallons and % chorine bleach and presto.

Thanks

You are referring to bleachcalc by mwsmith. I still use it all the time. The only caution is the borate section is not accurate. There is an error in the programming.
There is a working link in the second post in this thread (chem geek's post)

I do it manually one of two ways:

Formal:

(1,000,000/pool gallons) * bleach concentration * Gallons of bleach = FC added to pool
Bleach concentration--if it's 6% bleach use .06, if 12.5%, use .125, if 5.25%, use .0525, etc.

If you use liters then use liters in BOTH places as Pool Liters and Liters of Bleach and it works the same.

Informal:
Or use the simple Rule of Thumb:

1 gallon adds exactly its percentage t0 10,000 gallons of water.

So... 1 gallon of 6% adds 6ppm to 10,000 gallons.

If you have 20,000 gallons, then 1 gallon of 6% only adds 3 ppm of FC.

1 gallon of 12.5% adds 12.5ppm to 10,000 gallons.

3 quarts of 6% adds only 4.5ppm to 10,000 gallons.

Adjust accordingly, but I can usually do it in my head this way.

Here's the BleachCalc link directly:

BleachCalc262.exe (http://richardfalk.home.comcast.net/pool/BleachCalc262.exe)

Don't forget that you can also use The Pool Calculator (http://www.thepoolcalculator.com/) either online or saved to your computer offline or as an iPhone application (you pay for the latter).

The link Richard gave was to a post in archive section, which is only accessible to mods and "lifetimes". Most of the posts there are throwaways, but they are there so they can be checked first -- like this one.

That post is probably a throwaway now that Richard has put links here.

Deleting all the "I can't see it" comments.
